UBER SYSTEM CHARGED!
After the jam packed UBER SYSTEM REMIXED! party back in early February, the third installment continues the cross cultural infused party energy that Uber Lingua events are well known for in Sydney and across Australia. UBER SYSTEM CHARGED! features Cuban reggaeton performer Pochoman, Chinese-Malaysian dancer and vocalist WeiZen, Brasilian batucada percussion troop Timbalada, Local Gypsy-Jazz maestro Trevor Brown, Ghanaian Hip Hop producer MC Gee, Argentinian Cumbia performer MC Hernan and grass roots breaker and MC Morganics... Alongside DJs Bruno LT (Rio de Janeiro), Mashy P, Jack Shit, Luke Snarl (Sub Bass Snarl), Bentley (Drop), Sven Simulacrum, Stu Buchanan (Fat Planet) and from the Melbourne crew sakamoiz and bP. In house developed video material by Melbourne based VJ, SDzeit will also be screened. Saturday March 29th : 7pm till very late (be early for 'earth hour
acoustic set)
As is always the case with these events, all three zones of the Abercrombie will be used... Starting off earlier this time at 7pm the legendary beer garden kicks off with some chilled beats from Dust Tones promoter and DJ Bentley alongside a meat & vegetarian BBQ. At 8pm 'earth hour' opens the door for Uber Lingua to offer it's first ever all-acoustic programming. Featuring the posse picking up old-style instruments and igniting candles in recognition of this global 'no-electricity' event. More info on this closer to the event. From 9pm the video projectors and DJ equipment are switched back on and the party gets started with Uber's multi-lingual MCs from Cuba, Malaysia and Ghana taking to the stage with DJs bP and Mashy P dropping kicking global instrumentals... From 11pm the two inside areas kick off with beat driven dance floor sets in the main bar and the upstairs gallery space going through till the early hours... Melbourne's DJ sakamoiz has delved into the new world of 'Future Cumbia', a music form thriving in Mexico and Argentina at the moment but not heard much in Australia. sakamoiz will present an hour long DJ set of this stuff, then teaming up with Argentinean MC Hernan, will present a fusion of Latin Hip Hop meets Future cumbia... After the Spanish speaking section of the night, Uber revisits it's hugely successful Sydney Funk Ball of 2007 and lines up three very Brasilian artists... First Bruno LT from Rio de Janeiro, then the full on high-energy Batucada percussion troop Timbalada takes things to a new level... Following them is the only man capable, Stu Buchanan from Fat Planet dropping the dance floor killers he's known for. Upstairs Sydney veteran party DJs Jack Shit, Luke Snarl and Sven Simulacrum offer a house party with a difference, all guns blazing.
MORE ON THE ARTISTS
Ever since he was a child, Pocho liked to dance, act and sing and believes that he inherited the music in his blood. In 1998 he started working with a group called Onda Expansiva and this was when the name Pochoman became his artistic name. Onda expansiva won an audition out of 500 other hip hop groups to perform at the International Hip Hop Festival of Cuba. Pochoman was offered the chance to sing in America, Brazil and Europe
however due to his country's system of government he was unable to go.
He has sung on radio and shared the stage with various other famous cuban
artists such as Haila, Polo Montanez, Los Van Van, Carlos Manuel among
others. He claims to be the only hip hop artist that has had the honour
of singing in front of Fidel Castro.
WeiZen WeiZen was born and grew up in Malacca Straits, West Malaysia and is of Straits-born Chinese parentage. A classically trained pianist who, in her mid twenties discovered an Eastern European style of singing in a community choir based in Manly. This led Wei Zen into Indian devotional and Qawali influenced singing. It also rekindled an interest in Chinese Opera which her grandfather introduced to her as a child. After performing in world music bands and an Indonesian jazz fusion
band, Garis in late 90s, Wei Zen co-founded a SEAsian electronica music
and visual media projection group with a theatrical edge called TUFA in
1999. TUFA held their debut concert at The Studio, Sydney Opera House in
Sept 1999 and went on to perform 97 concerts until early 2004. The group
increasingly incorporated theatrical, dance and shadow lighting elements
to the creative work. Other major performances included a two-day concert
PHOENIX LOVE at The Studio again in 2002, The Government House, Carnivale
Festivals, MusiCairns Festival, FEMALIA second album launch at Bangarra
Dance Theatre, a three-day concert at the MardiGras Festival, Newtown Theatre
which received an interview by ABC TV Asia-Pacific and a live concert for
the ABC Radio National programme SOUND QUALITY by Tim Ritchie..
Versatility may have a wider mean when we talk about Bruno LT's activities
with brazilian music and audio techniques. His full dedication led him
to work with great names of the Brazilian Popular Music. Extremely sensible

on his own projects involving new talents of the Brazilian alternative
music.

With cultural diversity his primary passion, Australian DJ/producer 'bP' (Brendan Palmer) has been representing the musically 'not so represented' for nearing two decades. He has wandered the world gathering sounds and has performed in places as diverse as Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, London, Tijuana, Mexico city and Helsinki to name a few... In 2004 he launched Uber Lingua and his sonic activity has grown exponentially playing literally hundreds of gigs and promoting culturally charged music in most capital cities of Australia. bP's sets traverse language, culture, genre, history and social scenes; deliberately defiant of mainstream music fashions, he presents an intersection of underground and outernational sounds that capture his imagination. Roots to Futurism, East to West, Minimal to Maximal are all sonic stops on bP's translingual express. Brendan additionally works as a producer at the legendary Melbourne radio station Triple R during the day and presents the weekly 'Dialectic' radio program on the web and Tasmania's Edge Radio. ______

Luke Snarl is one half of deejay duo Sub Bass Snarl who have been at it since 1991. Being one half means he only plays the right channel of all the songs when he plays solo. OK just kidding. He plays half the tempo. No, but seriously, he hasn't played at Uber Lingua before I don't think.... Actually, HEY BRENDAN?!! WHY HAVEN'T YOU ASKED ME TO PLAY BEFORE? YOU BASTARD!!! What? Oh. Sorry, right, where were we? Oh yes he isn't really sure what he is going to play yet but it will definitely draw on his 20+ years of buying music, be influenced by following underground electronic genres and enjoying making people dance mixed with his current obsession with Dubstep, Hip Hop, Dub and stuff. And a fair bit of it will be unreleased and/or Australian tracks. YeahÖ OhÖ and he used to run sunday night interesting music club Frigid in sydney for a decade from 1996Ö and he mixes bands and thatÖ like some of the elefant traks ones - the herd, etcÖ yeahÖ oh and still does a radioshow on 2SER 107.3 (in Sydney) called Paradigm Shift every monday night 8:30-10pm Note: bP actually did ask the Sub Bass Snarl duo to play when DJ Olive
was in town in early 07 but only Seb could do itÖ What do you think about
that Luke?!?! eh??
MC Hernan neither accepts the status quo - nor sounds anything like them! Taking an intriguingly insightful approach to writing lyrics, this dancer-vocalist-song writer come MC is a social commentator, fighting against the system. Lyrically gifted, always moving forward - eyes open - this Newtown based MC seamlessly brings to the surface honest themes in lyrics that can only be described as controversially catchy, unanticipated and powerful arrangements. Wind it back to the beginning and Hernan (born in Argentina, raised in South-Western Sydney) had no choice but to fall in love with music from birth! Hernan's Latin roots have always held strong and been the foundations to the path that has lead to his dancing, music creating and vocal career pursuit. From Latin dancing at the tender age of 6 and break dancing to NWA and Public Enemy in the 80's, MC Hernan then picked up the microphone and composed his own messages of empathy, awareness and public progression. His influences have now mutated also combine reggae, with the mash of Latin Hip Hop. The result, Social Progression System! MC Hernan first launched his lyrical career merging with 3 piece group - 'Dub Progression'. From here, regular collaborations with DJ Spex, Dub Chaman and Uber Lingua ensued. Currently MC Herman's societal deprecating approach to writing lyrics gave birth to - Social Progression System (SPS). SPS is an 8 piece band that have grouped together to produce original songs punctuated with personal experiences, insight and human nature.

DJ Ability Also known as "The seriously not so serious dj" has been intentionally staying under the radar for the past few years using the traditional skills of hip hop to mash up all types of true school soul music. "I personally can't think of anything worse than getting famous for just playing other peoples music, its great to educate when you can and i love to rock a party but i don't really like all the hype attatched to the term dj, besides, i kind of just enjoy scratching as I feel that all i have time for is a little practise now and again. To be a respectable and sucssesful you really have to put some time into it".
